The Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative

Established in 1996, the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS) is a collaborative effort of numerous individuals and more than 100 organizations representing over 90,000 members. The work of the coalition has focused on the creation and implementation of the evidence-based Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative (MFCI), which provides guidelines for identifying and designating “mother-friendly” birth sites including hospitals, birth centers and home-birth services. All members of the Mid-Columbia Birth Network join the other respected endorsers of this initiative in pledging improving the quality and safety of our maternity care as follows:
